Set of missiles for firearms

Missiles for firearms, such as the culverin, a small hand-held gun with a long barrel, the ancestor of the arquebus and musket.

Chain mail

This fragment of chain mail is made of small circular, closed rings that are linked together to form the metal fabric of the armour.

Blacksmith’s nails

Small nails with flat, trapezoidal heads and four-sided shafts.

Fragments of metal brigandine plates

These fragments were part of a single piece protecting the soldier’s torso. They were a form of armour made from metal sheets worn over fabric or leather.

The brigandine sometimes also extended to the arms and legs.

Spur buckles

Hinged element to fix a harness

The levels from the second half of the 14th century that have been excavated at the foot of the barbican contain a wide range of horse-riding equipment, suggesting that horses were kept nearby at this period and in the 13th century.

During the excavations in 2021, 56 objects linked to horse-riding were found in the area: 7 fragments of horse-shoes, 2 iron harness buckles and 47 iron blacksmith’s nails.
